It's Our Anniversary!!

Today is a great day!! Why? You may ask. Well, that's because sixteen years ago on this day, I married the love of my life, Larry Thompson. It's such a blessing to be marry this long. Many married couples have gotten divorce after only 3 years or less of marital bliss. That's probably because God is not the foundation of their marriage; Or they have put more emphasis on getting married and not enough on doing what needs to be done to stay married.

Larry and I have had our share of ups and downs. However, not to sound so cliche', but love really did conquered all. Marriage is definitely hard work, but it's worth it. Let's just say it's a labor of love. As a married couple, we are still a work in progress. Besides, we have to make sure that we keep our home fire burning. ;)

I pray that we continue to grow in our marriage. I, also, pray for all marriages. I come against anything and anyone that may cause unnecessary strife, discord, deceitfulness within a marriage. What God has joined together no one can divide it or tear it apart by the power of the blood and the name of Jesus. Amen.

What God Has For You.....It's For You!!

Have you ever given any thought about what God has in store for you?

I do.....almost everyday. My mind has the tendency to daydream about my future. I think about how my life may change within a year or even ten years from now. Sometimes I envision God transforming what naturally seems impossible into supernaturally possible. We were created to do great things in the name of Jesus so that other people can see God's glory in His miraculous works through us.

However, we must allow God to lead, instruct, direct, and guide us to what He has in store for us. In addition to that, grab hold of it and claim in it in the mighty name of Jesus. Please keep in mind the road that you will travel to stake claim on your divine possessions will not exactly be as easy as you think. There are going to be quite a few potholes, road blocks, and even detours that are going to try to hinder you along the way. The devil is not going to make it easy for you at all. But it's all good because what God has for you......It is for you.

Though the devil may make several attempts to hinder us, We have the victory!!  We are armed for battle. Our weapons of warfare are not carnal, but mighty and strong. We have angels watching over us. We have the Most High God and His Word; Whereas we can speak to every situation and every burden that may try easily beset us. We are not and cannot be ignorant to satan's devices.

Remember, when things may not seem to be going the way you hope, don't worry. God always has a plan. Keep your eyes stayed on Him. Don't waver to the left or the right. Just keep on moving and put your faith into action.

Here are few scriptures for encouragement.

"For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot." (Psalm 91:11-13)

"For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ," (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)

"So Jesus answered and said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' it will be done."
(Matthew 21:21)

"But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."        (1 Corinthians 15:57)

I pray this post was a blessing to you in the name of Jesus.

Ode to Mothers Week: Mom Power....You Need Not To Apply!

"All positions are filled. You need not to apply." If you go to a business establishment where you wish to put in a job application and you see these words posted up, that pretty much means that they have all the man power they need to get the job done. Most likely, each employee is probably responsible for doing one job maybe two. They work the 8, 10, or 12 hours that are required of them, clock out, and then go home.

But, what if see these same words..."All positions are filled. You need not apply.," posted up in someone's home??  Do you know what that means?? One thing for sure is not 10-20 employees working various jobs in that home. However, it does mean that this home has all the man power they need. Except it is not man power,..... it's MOM POWER!!

Moms have many job descriptions. Our work is never done. We work way more than 12 hours a day.  Not to mention, we are on called 24/7.  We wear so many hats and at the same time, too. Yet, we rarely complain.  Moms don't these various jobs out of mere obligation, but out of love for our family and home.  Though, it wouldn't hurt to have a vacation every now and then. ;)

In order to get an idea of all the things moms do, here's a list of some of the many jobs a mom has.

  1. Chef - She makes sure that gourmet meal is on the dinner table every night. ;)
  2. Chauffer - Those who are not licensed to drive,  she chauffers them and their friends to various events and places, such as birthday parties, mall, school, etc.
  3. Laundry Machine Operator - She makes sure the family has clean clothes.
  4. Housekeeper - She makes sure the home is tidy and clean.
  5. Mentor - She teaches lifeskills that are important for spiritual growth and preparing for the real world., .
  6. Cheerleader - She cheers on her family members on their various achievements.
  7. Handywoman - If something breaks around the house and she is capable of fixing it, she will do it or at least try.
  8. Judge and Juror - If there is a crime committed, such as rule breaking.  She deliberates (if necessary), then she sentences the proper consequence.  It's not People's Court, but MOM's Court.
  9. Manager - She manages day-to-day tasks and make sure everyone and everything is in position.
  10. CEO (Chief Executive Officer) - She runs the household.  She makes executive decisions based on what's best for the family.
  11. Nurse - She handles minor boo-boos. For major ones, to the emergency room we go.
  12. Physchologist - She listens. Whether there is a problem or not, she just listens and renders advice, comfort, and unconditonal love if necessary.
  13. Seamstress - She handles all wardrobe malfunctions
  14. Teacher - She helps with homework, school projects, studying, etc. If she has a child 4 and under, then she specializes in teaching Shapes, Numbers, ABC's, Nursery Rhymes, etc.
  15. Hair Stylist - She makes sure that no one has a noticeable bad hair day.
  16. Family Assistant -  She provides any assistant that's necessary to show support and to encourage.
  17. Body Guard - She protects her family.  She has their backs.
  18. Mediator - If there is a disagreement among the family, she helps to rationally find a way to agree to this disagree without strife.
  19. Local Buyer - She buys household supplies, groceries, clothes, and all the necessary essentials that are needed to run and maintain a household.
  20. Coordinator/Planner - She plans/coordinates special events birthday parties, family outings/trips, and any other special activity and/or event.

There are plenty of job titles that I failed to mention.  However the bottomline is, you need not apply because WE GOT THIS!! You may wonder how we are able do so much from one day to the next?? The answer is simple. All that we do for our family is not by are natural strength. It's supernatural. The bible says, "We can do all things through Christ that strengthens us," (Phil. 4:13), which includes being a mom and all the job descriptions that comes along with it.

That's why it is so important for moms to pray and intercede for their family. Though we contribute a lot, we cannot do anything without strength from God and His grace and His mercy. Moms, I am hear to tell you not to grow wear in well doing because your labor is not in vain.  With God on our side each day, we are POWERFUL, not powerless!!!

Here's a poem that I thought would be great addition to this post.

Mother's Day
Author: Carol Matthews

A Mother loves right from the start.
She holds her baby close to her heart.
The bond that grows will never falter.
Her love is so strong it will never alter.

A Mother gives never ending Love.
She never feels that she has given enough.
For you she will always do her best.
Constantly working, there's no time to rest.

A Mother is there when things go wrong.
A hug and a kiss to help us along.
Always there when we need her near.
Gently wipes our eyes when we shed a tear.

So on this day shower your Mother with Love.
Gifts and presents are nice but that is not enough.
Give your Mother a day to have some peace of mind.
Be gentle, be good, be helpful, be kind.

Happy Mothers Day.

Ode to Mothers Week: A Mother's Fight!!

As mothers, it is our naturally instinct to protect, provide, and comfort our children. We want to make sure that our children know that no matter what, we are here for them. Mothers are natural born fighters. And we are willing to come against anyone or anything that tries to hurt our children, whether it's physically, emotionally, or verbally. Bottomline, you don't mess with our kids.   If you have a problem with our children, then you have a problem with us. We are like lionesses protecting their cubs.

But, what if a mother's primary fight is not only for her children, but for her health? We are talking about mothers who have been healthy all their lives only to have it compromised. Mothers whose primary concerns included dinner for the family, fixing their children's school lunches, making sure laundry is done, preparing dinner, carpooling, and so, much, much more. So, what happens when a monkey wrench called cancer has been thrown into your best laid plans?? Whereas, your fight is no longer just about getting everything done on the to-do list, making sure your children are taking care of, or getting off of work in time for child's little league game, but for health.

I know someone who can answer this question. Her name is Tilease Jenkins, whom I have called my sister from day one. In February 2012, she was diagnosis with breast cancer. Right now, she is in the process of doing chemo. She is a hard working woman of God, who will be there for you whenever you called. She loves her family immensely.  After God, they are her top priority.  I ask Tilease to write about what is it like as a mother to fight for her health and to be their for her children. I wanted her to share a little bit of her story.  And this is what she had to say:

Photobucket

Valentine’s Day is supposed to be the Day of Love. You’re supposed to be figuring out new and romantic ways to show the one you love just how much you love them. You’re supposed to be looking for that perfect gift that doesn’t come across as last minute and cliché. I, however, spent my Valentine’s Day this year at Charleston Breast Center. I remembered the doctor coming in after my ultrasound telling me that what they saw didn’t look good and she wanted to do a biopsy right then. I remembered looking at the clock and asking how long it would take and the doctor telling me about 1.5 – 2 hours.

I had to find someone to pick up my children from school. My mom was in Beaufort and my husband was at work. Then, right there on the table, I burst out into tears. Not because of the possibility of having breast cancer, but because of the possibility of not being able to take care of my children. Here I was sitting on an exam table faced with the dilemma that where I was and what I had to do was going to prevent me from providing a need for my children. It was MY responsibility that day to get them from school and I was not going to be able to do it.

Now, I know you may say that my health should’ve been my first priority, but as a mom, it never is. As a mom, I put the needs of my children before me, even as a sat on an exam table waiting to have a biopsy done. Don’t get me wrong, I had the biopsy done and I found someone to pick my children up from school. But the truth of the matter is that I was more worried about not being able to care for them than I was about the results from the biopsy. Well, two days later, I got a phone call from my doctor asking my husband and I to come in. When we get there, the doctor comes in,  who is very straightforward, and says, “You have breast cancer!” Afterwards she apologized for 20 minutes.

Once it sank in and the crying was over, the doctor says to me, “What can I do for you now?” My answer to her was simple, “I need to know what the next step is, because I have to be able to sit my children down and tell them what’s going on and what the game plan is going to be!” I’ll deal with how I feel about it later. I need to make sure they are going to be ok and put things in place for them. Even through all of that, the needs of my children were greater than what I was currently having to process.

What is it that makes me put the concerns and needs of my children before my own? I would say that it was the way God designed me. As I go through chemotherapy and deal with the effects of breast cancer, one of the things that keep me going is the need to be able to care for my children as much as I physically can. I still have the desire to meet their needs. I still have the desire to be there for them physically, mentally, and spiritually.

I still have the desire to be their protector and go out and fight for them when they’re not able to fight for themselves. I am still their mom. So, I take care of me, so that I can take care of them. They are my gifts from God. They were assigned to me to love, care for, cherish, teach, discipline, and show them God in action. I take that job seriously; And I will do what I need to do to make sure that they are taken care for. The reward is unmeasurable.

I care for myself, because I have to be able to care for them.

By His stripes, she is healed!! I pray that this post is a blessing to you. To all mother's no matter what you are going through, stand and fight. Fight the good fight of faith. In Christ Jesus, we are more than conquerors. And we have the victory!! Hallelujah and Amen!!

Ode to Mother's Day Week: We Are Designer's Originals!!

Photobucket

When God gave me the vision for Designer's Original, He wanted me to help women to understand that we are His original creation. We are His masterpiece, a poem, His priceless work of art. In addition to that, we are fearfully and wonderfully made. God is our Master Designer. Everything He has made is good.

There some women who elude the eloquence of Christ. They inspire us. They encourages. They give us hope. There are also women who have that mother hen syndrome. They know how to keep the peace and balance among friends and family. And that is exactly what my sister in Christ, Sonia does. She is such a sweet and tender hearted person. She is also the very first recipient of the Designer's Original Award. Congratulations!!  You deserve it!!

sonia

Today is her birthday!! Happy Birthday Sonia!!! It's a blessing to have her in my life.

We are all Designer's Originals. And to all mothers, continue to always be encourage. If you feel like you are not doing a great job as mother, cancel that thought in the name of Jesus. You are an original creation designed and created by God. He knew you before you knew Him. He knew that someday you will be a mom. So, don't fret. Seek parental guidance from God. He will instruct, lead and carry you along the way. You being a mom is no accident, but a blessing!!

Ode to Mothers Week - A Mother's Love

Photobucket

There's nothing like a mother's love. A mother's love is nurturing, endearing, comforting, and warm. A mother's love is express in so many ways. You can see it and feel it everytime she bakes gourmet cookies, helps out with homework, kisses the boo-boos, wipes away the tears, etc. A mother's love is endless from the moment her child started to grow in her womb to adulthood. A mother will love her child(ren) forever.

Here's an excerpt from one of my favorite children's book, "I Love You Forever" By: Robert Munsch

A mother held her new baby and very slowly rocked him back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. And while she held him, she sang:

I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living
my baby you'll be.
Well, that mother, she got older. She got older and older and older. One day she called up her son and said, "You'd better come see me because I'm very old and sick." So her son came to see her. When he came in the door she tried to sing the song. She sang:

I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always...

But she couldn't finish because she was too old and sick. The son went to his mother. He picked her up and rocked her back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. And he sang this song:
I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living
my Mommy you'll be.

When I taught preschool, every year I would invite mothers and grandmothers to their child's classroom for Mother's Day Tea. In honor of our classroom moms, I would read "Love You Forever". Needless to say, there was not a dry eye in the classroom.

ilovemymom

I, also, came across this poem and thought I would share it with you.

A Mother's Love
There are times when only a Mother's love
Can understand our tears,
Can soothe our disappoints
And calm all of our fears.

There are times when only a Mother's love
Can share the joy we feel
When something we've dreamed about
Quite suddenly is real.
There are times when only a Mother's faith
Can help us on life's way
And inspire in us the confidence
We need from day to day.
For a Mother's heart and a Mother's faith
And a Mother's steadfast love
Were fashioned by the Angels
And sent from God above.

Ode to Mothers Week: Prayer While Doing Laundry

Photobucket

A mother's work is never done. There's always something to do whether it's cooking, taking the children to their little league practices, and so on. And let's not forget my all time favorite.......doing laundry......yeah right. Even though laundry is not exactly on the top of my to-do list, it is still has to get done. I must admit I have no problem with the washing and drying process of doing laundry. But, folding and putting it away is probably a different story.

With that being said, I came across this "Prayer While Doing Laundry" on Creighton University Online Ministries and thought this will be a great edition to my "Ode to Mother's Week". In addition, I think all mothers can relate to the beauty of doing laundry. This prayer can help you make the most of your laundry time. So, the next time you are up to your eyeballs in laundry keep this prayer in mind. I pray that it is a blessing to you.

Photobucket

Prayer While Doing Laundry
I find you so close to me right here, dear Lord.
Surrounded by the dirt and scattered clothing of my family,
I find this an ideal spot to pray with you.
No one comes near here so it is quiet, and it gives me
a chance to reflect on the many blessings of my life.
As I pick up their clothing and sort it, I ask you to give each
of them what is needed most in their lives.

I fill the washer with my husband's shirts and socks,
and ask that you bless him as he wears them
to work each day. Give him the grace to see that
his work is holy and open his eyes to see
the sacredness of each moment of life.

As I sort the tiny socks or the overalls
of the children, I smile and remember how blessed
I am to have them in my life.

I sort the larger teenage clothing and wonder
at how fast these clothes have become larger sizes -
and how quickly children grow up. I ask your help
as I guide them through each new phase of their lives.

Give me a love that is endless,
a heart that forgives them and the humility
to ask for their forgiveness when that is right.
Help me keep them from danger,
and help me to let go and trust
you when it is time to do that.
I try so hard to be perfect but lead me
to remember that it is here in the
smudged,
disorganized
and disheveled
part of life that I find you the nearest.

Thank you, dearest Lord,
for so much grace in my life!
Amen.

Happy Mother's Day

Ode to Mothers Week

Photobucket

Next Sunday is Mother's Day!! So, I will post all this week in honor of mothers. I am mother of three, 2 boys and a girl. Jonathan 16, Michael 13, and Ketirah 9. I wish I can say that raising children is a ray of sunshine every single day. Unfortunately, it's not because being a mother has its own challenges. However, the good always outweighs the bad. Sometimes, I think that God tests us through our children. He tests our patience. He tests our faith. He tests our parenting skills. In order for us to grow as mothers and be the mother that God designed us to be, in some way or another we must and have to be tested.

During our testing time, we must not grow weary or even question our ability to be a great mom. We must stand on God's word. We must seek Him for guidance and instruction on being the mother He has called us to be. Even as mothers, we have a divine purpose. And if you are not sure what that might be, God will show you in due time.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him, A
nd He shall direct your paths.
(Proverbs 3:5-6)

Celebrating Cinco de Mayo

"Cinco de Mayo is a celebration held on May 5. It is celebrated nationwide in the United States and regionally in Mexico. The date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride, and to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War." Quoted from Wikipedia.org

I didn't realize how many people celebrated Cinco de Mayo and how much they look forward to it. If everything goes according to my schedule today, I will be attending my first Cinco de Mayo party. Yay!!! In addition to having fun with my friends, I am excited about the food, because I love mexican food. The only thing I am not a big fan of is the refried beans.

However, I am definitely a fan of burritos, fajitas, and quesadillas. Yummmmmmm. All this talk about food is making me hungry.  Besides, what's Cinco de Mayo without some delicious SALSA!!! I saw this salsa recipe on the Taste of Home website. It looks so divine and delish. Here's a photo of it taken by Taste of Home.

You can check out the recipe at Taste of Home

Even though you may not participate in Cinco de Mayo, I pray you have a great day and enjoy your weekend!!
