Manic Monday ~ Anxious, Supplication, and Guard

manic monday

Welcome to the first Manic Monday of July 2012!! Woo whoo!!! I can't wait to get started. Once again, our verse of the week is Philippians 4:6-7, "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Today, we are going to focus on three words, instead of one. They are anxious, supplication, and guard.

anxious - (Greek word - merimnao;#3309) ~ a distraction, a preoccupation with things causing anxiety, stress, and pressure

Jesus doesn't want us to worry or be anxious about anything because He knows our heavenly Father is more than able of taking care of our needs. We should acknowledge the same thing and trust in the Lord.

supplication - (Greek word - deesis;#1189) ~ need, indigence, want,
privation, penury; a seeking, asking, entreating,
entreaty to God or to man; humble prayer, or petition

Supplication is the process of transferring your burderns over to God. This is where you seek God first and ask Him for help in a troublesome time or when you are feeling inadequate and insufficient. Supplication is your earnest request from God. It's not only a humble prayer, but a fervent one. The New King James version of James 5:16 says, "The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much."

The New Living Translation says, "The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results." There is power in supplication.

If you follow the instructions from Philippians 4:6, then you will be able to experience God's peace that surpasses all understanding. In addition to that, that very same peace from God will guard your heart and your mind through Jesus Christ.

guard - (Greek word - phroureo; #5432) ~ kept, A military term
picturing a sentry standing guard as protection
against the enemy; to keep safe from harm
or danger; protect; watch over;

With God's peace, we don't have to be distracted from what He has in stored for us. His peace will guard us and keep us on the staright and narrow. The bottom line is that you must give everything to God. Transfer all your burdens, all your worries, and your requests from your shoulders to God's hands; So that, the peace of God can reside in your heart.
