Let's get started. 😊In part 6 of this series, we are going to discuss, "How is it possible to be free indeed in the name of Jesus?"
31) Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 2
32) And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” 4
33) They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?” 6
34) Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. 6
35) And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. 6 and 4
36) Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed." 4
(John 8:31-36)
*Abide means to remain, to continue;
A believer in Jesus Christ, who continues to obey the word is a disciple, a learner of God's word so that they can be free and know the truth of God's word.
*Part of experiencing freedom to follow Jesus is abiding in God's word, which will help you grow in Godliness, including a life changing opportunity to gain knowledge, understanding and come to know the truth by personal experience.
Question: How do we come to know the truth?
*Jesus, Himself, is the truth that sets us free. He is the source of truth, the perfect standard of what is right. He frees us from the consequences of sin, from self deception, and deception by Satan. He knows us clearly the way to eternal life with God.
Thus Jesus does not give us freedom to do what we want, but freedom to follow God. As we seek to serve God and following Him, Jesus' perfect truth frees us to be all that God meant us to be.
FOLLOW TO LEAD
*Follow means to engage in as a calling or way of life; pursue; yo accept as authority; obey
Following Jesus means:
- to accept God's calling on your life
- to be a servant of God (discipleship)
- to win souls for the kingdom of God
- to pursue or to seek first the Kingdom of God: and its righteousness
- to comply with God's word, which means obeying His instructions and receiving guidance
*Leaving your old way of living and doing things is a requirement for everyone who decides to follow Jesus and put Him first.
In Part 7 of this series, we will continue with more on following Jesus.
